Google quietly moved AI Overviews for a number of brand keywords out of the main results column and into the right-hand rail on desktop, the spot the Knowledge Panel usually occupies. No announcement. Your brand term SERP layout may already have changed as of yesterday. Today I want to walk through what that actually means, plus the Performance Max asset update that finally lets you save changes directly as an A/B test, and Microsoft Clarity's new "agentic analytics." As for that search volume figure OpenAI said out loud, I'll tell you how to read it in a moment.

Today's AI Marketing Highlights

1. AI Overviews for brand terms moved to the right rail, taking the Knowledge Panel's seat

  • What happened: According to PPC Land's November 3 report, Google, without any announcement, moved AI Overviews (the AI-generated summary at the top of search results) for many brand keywords out of the main results column and into the desktop right-hand rail, where the Knowledge Panel used to sit. Examples named in the report include Apple, Zillow, and Coca-Cola. There's currently no official word from Google on scope or rollout timing.
  • Marketer's take: Brand terms typically carry the highest CTR and sit closest to conversion. When the layout shifts, the click path can shift with it, and unannounced changes like this usually roll out in waves, so different accounts may not see the same thing.
  • What you can do now: Today, search your own brand terms and your main competitors' brand terms in a desktop incognito window, screenshot everything, and pull brand term clicks and impressions in Search Console with a marker on November 3 so you have a baseline to compare against later.

2. Performance Max asset group updates can now be saved directly as an A/B test

  • What happened: PPC News Feed reported on November 3 that Google Ads has added a "Save and test asset group changes" panel to the asset editing interface in Performance Max, the campaign type that automatically serves across placements. Advertisers can save asset edits directly as an A/B test, set traffic split and test duration, and have the winning version applied automatically.
  • Marketer's take: Previously, validating a PMax asset change meant spinning up a separate experiment and rebuilding the whole setup, a barrier high enough that most small and mid-sized advertisers just swapped creatives on gut feel. Being able to launch a test inside the asset group with one click drops the cost of validating generative assets to near zero. That said, how you set test duration and traffic split still directly determines whether your conclusions are trustworthy.
  • What you can do now: Pick a mid-budget, mediocre-performing asset group as your guinea pig, change exactly one variable (the main visual or the headline, for example), leave everything else alone, and wait out a full conversion cycle before reading results.

3. Microsoft Clarity launches "agentic analytics," showing what AI agents do on your site

  • What happened: Search Engine Roundtable reported on November 4 that Microsoft's web analytics tool Clarity has added two features, Agentic Analytics and Ask Clarity, and expanded the scope of Brand Agents. The new dashboard shows which AI agents visited your site and whether they completed tasks like checkout. Microsoft says AI agents "nearly doubled in three weeks, approaching 2 million." That's a vendor-stated figure, not independently verified.
  • Marketer's take: The number itself isn't the point. The point is that "will an AI agent get stuck in your checkout flow" is now observable for the first time. Login walls, CAPTCHAs, and dynamically loaded buttons used to only block humans. Now they block agents too.
  • What you can do now: First check with engineering whether your existing analytics stack can distinguish agent traffic, then walk the add-to-cart-through-checkout path yourself the dumbest way possible and note which steps require a human to get through.

4. OpenAI says it directly: ChatGPT's search-like query volume is roughly one-fifth of Google's

  • What happened: Search Engine Roundtable reported on November 4 that OpenAI's Adam Fry, in an interview with Alex Kantrowitz, said ChatGPT's "search-like queries" run at roughly one-fifth of Google's query volume, and mentioned weekly active users grew from 1 billion to 1.2 billion over the past two months. These are all vendor-stated figures. The industry has extrapolated from them that the scale now exceeds Bing, but none of it is independently verified.
  • Marketer's take: OpenAI hasn't published a methodology for how "search-like queries" are defined or counted, so don't treat the number as settled. But even heavily discounted, AI search volume no longer looks like a footnote you tuck onto the last page of a report. What this affects is where GEO budget and headcount rank in next year's priority list, not whether you cut SEO today.
  • What you can do now: Take your 5 to 10 core purchase-intent terms, run each through both ChatGPT and Google, and record who gets mentioned and which sources get cited. That becomes your baseline for monthly tracking.

5. Ahrefs tested 260 million prompts: Reddit threads show the strongest correlation with AI visibility

  • What happened: Ahrefs published a study on November 3 analyzing 10,000 brands and 260 million non-branded prompts. According to Ahrefs, brand mentions on Reddit correlate with AI visibility at roughly 0.75, the highest of any category. News coverage came in at 0.67, actually below general web mentions at 0.70. The study also found that brands with 10x more Reddit mentions get roughly 5.5x more AI mentions.
  • Marketer's take: This is correlation, not causation. It's equally possible that brands already being widely discussed are also the ones models tend to mention, so don't read it as "spam Reddit and you'll show up in AI." But it does loosen one old assumption: putting the entire PR budget behind a handful of major outlets may not be the most efficient way to lift AI visibility, and the value of casting a wider net across vertical sites and community discussions is worth re-estimating.
  • What you can do now: Start by searching your brand name on Reddit and Chinese-language forums to see where you stand, whether the sentiment is positive, negative, or nonexistent, then decide whether to add content, add customer service responses, or deal with existing negative mentions first. One reminder: any community activity needs to follow platform rules and disclose your affiliation.

Closing

The one thing worth remembering today: platforms are announcing fewer and fewer changes, and a shift as significant as the brand term SERP layout may be something you only catch because you took a screenshot. The metrics worth watching this coming week are simple: whether brand term CTR and impressions show a break, and whether that PMax A/B test produces a conclusion you'd actually be willing to present in a meeting. This is Muyan. See you tomorrow.
