## Today's Top Stories

### 1. TSMC Earnings Call: C.C. Wei Boldly Declares "AI Demand is Real," Raising Full-Year Revenue Forecast
- **Source**: Bloomberg (<https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-07-18/tsmc-raises-revenue-outlook-as-ai-spurs-node-development-surge>）)
- **Summary**: At the July 2024 earnings call, TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei personally debunked market skepticism about an AI bubble, bluntly stating that "AI demand is real." Driven by strong demand for 3nm and 5nm advanced processes in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and smartphones, TSMC raised its full-year USD revenue growth forecast.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: This undoubtedly injected a massive dose of confidence into Taiwan's semiconductor industry. While the rest of the world was questioning whether AI is a bubble, the "Sacred Mountain Protecting the Nation" (TSMC), which holds the world's most advanced manufacturing processes, used hard financial forecasts to tell everyone: don't panic, we literally can't keep up with the orders.
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. How does C.C. Wei's "AI demand is real" statement impact market confidence in tech stocks?
  2. With capacity failing to meet demand, how will TSMC's pricing strategy affect downstream players like NVIDIA and Apple?
- **Script Suggestion**:
Hey everyone, did you know that lately, a lot of people in the market have been talking down on AI, calling it a blown-up bubble? Well, TSMC's Chairman C.C. Wei shut down those doubts at their earnings call with a single, powerful line: "AI demand is real!" It's like everyone is still arguing whether a restaurant is actually good, and the head chef just walks out and shows you a waitlist that stretches out for the next two years. TSMC didn't just raise its revenue forecast; they also hinted that advanced process capacity is extremely tight. Simply put, if you want to make AI chips right now, you have to get in line in Taiwan. This isn't a bubble anymore—it's a full-blown technological industrial revolution!

### 2. Thinking Like a Human? OpenAI Releases "o1" Model with Reasoning Capabilities
- **Source**: TechCrunch (<https://techcrunch.com/2024/09/12/openai-releases-o1-its-first-llm-with-reasoning-abilities/>）)
- **Summary**: OpenAI has officially launched its brand-new model series, "o1," codenamed "Strawberry." This model "thinks" before responding, simulating a human-like Chain of Thought. It significantly outperforms previous models in complex reasoning tasks such as science, math, and coding.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: For software developers and system integrators in Taiwan, the arrival of o1 means AI is no longer just a "smooth-talking chatbot," but a true "virtual senior engineer" capable of solving complex logic and debugging algorithms.
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. What is the fundamental difference between a "thinking" AI and previous AIs that "predict the next word based on probability"?
  2. How will this paradigm of trading more compute time for higher accuracy reshape the future user experience?
- **Script Suggestion**:
We used to use ChatGPT like a contestant in a game show buzzer round—before you even finished your question, it would throw a bunch of answers in your face. It was fast, but sometimes it was complete nonsense. But OpenAI's newly released o1 model is completely different! It's like a Go master. When you ask it a tough question, it doesn't answer right away. Instead, it takes a pause, quietly thinks for about five seconds, gets all its logic straight, and then speaks. This "Chain of Thought" technology makes its error rate in math and coding incredibly low. This means we are one step closer to true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

### 3. The New Developer Favorite! Anthropic Launches Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Outperforming GPT-4o in Coding
- **Source**: TechCrunch (<https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/20/anthropic-claims-its-new-model-claude-3-5-sonnet-beats-gpt-4o/>）)
- **Summary**: Anthropic has released Claude 3.5 Sonnet. This mid-tier model outperforms competitors' flagship models across multiple benchmarks, particularly in coding, multi-step workflows, and chart analysis. Additionally, the newly introduced "Artifacts" feature allows users to preview AI-generated web pages or mini-games in real-time directly on the web interface.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: Taiwan's software and UI/UX design communities have given this model almost zero negative feedback. The Artifacts feature, in particular, has doubled the efficiency of front-end development and prototyping, with some even joking that it feels like "having a cheat code."
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. How does Anthropic's success in securing a foothold in the mid-to-high-end market with Claude 3.5 put pressure on OpenAI?
  2. How will real-time interactive interfaces like Artifacts reshape our collaborative workflows with AI?
- **Script Suggestion**:
If OpenAI is the famous leader of the martial arts world, then Anthropic is like the low-profile master with deep internal power. The Claude 3.5 Sonnet they released absolutely shocked the developer community! Especially that Artifacts feature—you just tell it, "Build me a Snake game," and not only does it write clean code, but a window pops up on the right side of the screen so you can play it with your keyboard right then and there! For many of our product designers and engineers in Taiwan who do prototyping, this is like hiring a top-tier assistant who doesn't drink coffee, works insane overtime, and never complains.

### 4. McDonald's Releasing Its Secret Recipe? Meta Launches Llama 3.1 405B to Challenge Closed-Source Giants
- **Source**: The Verge (<https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/23/24204055/meta-llama-3-1-open-source-ai-model>）)
- **Summary**: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the release of the open-source Llama 3.1 model family, which includes a flagship model boasting 405 billion parameters. Zuckerberg emphasized that open-source AI will become the industry standard and predicted that Llama will eventually surpass the GPT series to become the most popular model.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: The power of open-source models provides an excellent option for Taiwan's financial sector and government agencies—which prioritize data security and want to avoid sending data to overseas servers—to deploy top-tier AI on-premises.
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. What is the business strategy behind Meta's insistence on "open source"? How do they plan to make money?
  2. What kind of hardware challenges (such as GPU servers) does the massive 405B parameter size pose for enterprise deployment?
- **Script Suggestion**:
Meta went absolutely wild this time! Zuckerberg's move is basically like McDonald's suddenly announcing, "Here is our Big Mac secret sauce recipe. It's free for the whole world to use, and you can modify it however you want!" This Llama 3.1 405B is a massive open-source model with capabilities that directly rival GPT-4. Why is this so important for Taiwanese enterprises? Because many banks and hospitals wouldn't dare send sensitive data to OpenAI's servers. Now with Llama, they can just buy a few servers loaded with NVIDIA chips and run top-tier AI right in their own server rooms—secure and cost-effective. Zuck's move is really driving the closed-source camp crazy.

### 5. Apple's AI Dilemma in China: Apple Intelligence Reportedly in Talks with Baidu
- **Source**: Wall Street Journal (<https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/apple-has-held-talks-with-baidu-about-ai-for-its-devices-in-china-84382e21>）)
- **Summary**: Following the announcement of Apple Intelligence at WWDC, Apple has faced strict generative AI regulatory scrutiny in China. To ensure iPhone's AI features can launch smoothly in the Chinese market, Apple is reportedly in active talks with local Chinese LLM providers like Baidu to power its underlying AI models.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: This reflects the fragmentation of global AI geopolitics. It also makes Taiwanese consumers pay closer attention when purchasing: Is the AI powering the iPhone they buy of American lineage, or does it mix in technology from other regions?
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. How will Apple's compromise to adopt different underlying AI models in different regions affect its brand image and user experience consistency?
  2. How do China's regulatory policies force multinational tech giants to adopt a "one country, two systems" technical roadmap?
- **Script Suggestion**:
We all know Apple introduced the super cool Apple Intelligence this year, but when this technology tried to enter the Chinese market, it hit a massive roadblock. Because China requires all AI models to pass official government reviews, Apple's tech—which relies on OpenAI and its own cloud—got stuck. So what did they do? Rumor has it Apple reached out to local player Baidu for a partnership. It's like a high-end American restaurant opening a local branch and, to survive, having to swap out its signature beef patty for local braised pork. Sure, it's localized, but for Apple fans who want the authentic experience, whether it still tastes right is highly debatable.

### 6. Mad Scientist Elon Musk! xAI Builds "Colossus" Supercomputer with 100,000 H100 GPUs
- **Source**: Tom's Hardware (<https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/elon-musks-xai-officially-switches-on-colossus-100k-h100-gpu-cluster-in-just-122-days-plans-to-double-its-size-to-200k-gpus-soon>）)
- **Summary**: Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, built and completed the "Colossus" supercomputer cluster in Memphis, USA, in just 122 days, equipped with 100,000 liquid-cooled NVIDIA H100 GPUs. However, such a massive scale has posed extreme power challenges, even requiring the use of mobile generators as a temporary fix.
- **Taiwan Perspective**: The liquid cooling technology and server racks behind this supercomputer were mostly rushed out overnight by Taiwanese ODMs (such as Quanta, Wiwynn, Auras, etc.), proving once again that Taiwan is the strongest backbone behind the AI hardware arms race.
- **Key Discussion Points**:
  1. What kind of pressure does Elon Musk's "extreme speed" in building this supercomputer—this true "Silicon Valley speed"—put on other AI competitors?
  2. With AI training energy consumption becoming increasingly severe, will this become the biggest bottleneck restricting future AI development?
- **Script Suggestion**:
When it comes to being crazy, who can beat Elon Musk? His xAI actually assembled 100,000 NVIDIA H100 chips into a supercomputer called Colossus in just 122 days. 122 days! Most of us take longer than that just to renovate a guest room. But as soon as this "power-hungry beast" turned on, the local power grid almost collapsed, and Musk even had to bring in his own gas turbine generators to supply power. It's literally like bringing an entire herd of cows next door just to drink a glass of milk. But then again, the liquid cooling technology and servers inside this behemoth were all built by Taiwanese manufacturers working around the clock. While Musk takes the spotlight, Taiwan's supply chain is quietly saving the world in the background!
