# 🏀 Wembanyama 52 Points, 24 Rebounds, 8 Blocks: First in 50 Years, Spurs Edge Out Mavericks | AI Sports Daily

## Opening

52 points, 24 rebounds, 8 blocks, and he did it while sick. On the night the Spurs edged the Mavericks 112-111, Victor Wembanyama put up a stat line nobody has matched in nearly 50 years. In this episode, Muyan walks you through that monster performance, plus a Champions League match that produced 10 goals, and a first-in-six-years twist in the MLB awards season. More on that in a moment.

## Today's Sports Headlines

### 1. Wembanyama drops 52 points, 24 rebounds, 8 blocks as Spurs hold off Mavericks 112-111
- **What happened**: Per NBA.com on November 5, the Spurs squeaked past the Mavericks 112-111 for their sixth straight win. Wembanyama posted a career-high 52 points to go with 24 rebounds and 8 blocks, including 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks in the first half alone. He's averaging 32.5 points during the win streak, and he's been playing through illness.
- **Why it matters**: A 50-point, 20-rebound, 5-block game is the first in nearly 50 years. That first-half line? Nobody has done it since play-by-play tracking began in the 1996-97 season. A one-point game that came down to the final seconds. You watch a night like this once and remember it forever.

### 2. Wild Matchday 4 in the Champions League: Lens blown out 1-9 by Como, PSG wins 6-0 on the road
- **What happened**: According to results compiled by UEFA's official site and Paris Saint-Germain's website (published November 4 and November 5 respectively), Wednesday's nine fixtures included a stunning 9-1 Como demolition of Lens on the road. Fenerbahçe beat Liverpool 3-2, Real Madrid came from behind to win 3-2 away at AEK Athens, Manchester City topped Leipzig 3-2, and Arsenal took down Slavia Prague 2-1. On Tuesday, defending champion Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Villarreal 6-0 away, Sporting Lisbon beat Shakhtar 1-0, and LASK Linz crushed Slovan Bratislava 4-0.
- **Why it matters**: A 10-goal scoreline isn't something you see every year in the Champions League. Como turned somebody else's home ground into their own training session. And as for Liverpool losing in Istanbul, that city carries some seriously complicated memories for Reds supporters.

### 3. East finals preview? 76ers hold off Pistons 112-106 to reach a league-best 8-1
- **What happened**: Bleacher Report's live coverage on November 4 described this as an Eastern Conference finals preview, and the 76ers took it 112-106 on the road, sealing the win at the free throw line. Brown, Embiid, and James carried the scoring load, covering for a cold shooting night from Maxey. The Pistons trailed by 18 at one point and cut it to 12, but couldn't finish the comeback.
- **Why it matters**: The 76ers' 8-1 record is the best in the league right now, and they got this one on a night when their main guys weren't shooting well. That kind of win says more than a blowout. Detroit at 6-2 didn't lose any momentum either, and that comeback stretch had pulses racing.

### 4. ESPN power rankings: Rockets on top, with VanVleet's return the key
- **What happened**: ESPN's updated power rankings from November 5 put the Houston Rockets at number one, crediting the return of point guard Fred VanVleet, who was ruled out with a serious injury before training camp. The team's offense looks noticeably more organized. The Trail Blazers sit eighth; Morant played just four games before a hamstring strain sidelined him, yet the team keeps trending up. The Raptors, meanwhile, are dealing with the familiar issue of Kawhi Leonard missing time with left knee swelling.
- **Why it matters**: Two weeks into the season, it's already clear how much a true floor general can raise a team's ceiling. Portland climbing without Morant is worth watching over the next few weeks.
- **Source**: [ESPN](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50371604/nba-power-rankings-30-teams-rank-week-two-describe-season)

### 5. The Nuggets' real warning sign: if Jokić declines, Denver has no Plan B
- **What happened**: ESPN's analysis today (November 6) points out that Jokić's early-season production has dipped, and the Nuggets have almost no room to improve the roster: Gordon's and Brown's contracts are hard to swap for equivalent talent, Murray is untouchable, and the young players haven't built up trade value. At the same time, the front office faces a tough call on whether to offer a record-setting supermax extension averaging $72 million a year, which would push them into the second apron.
- **Why it matters**: When a franchise's fate is tied to one player, it's romantic when you're winning and crushing when you hit a rough patch. This isn't just Denver's problem. Under the current salary structure, plenty of contenders will face the same question sooner or later.
- **Source**: [ESPN](https://espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50371585/nikola-jokic-mvp-denver-nuggets-struggles)

### 6. MLB awards season begins: Platinum Glove tonight, and the first MVP race in six years without Ohtani or Judge
- **What happened**: The awards calendar MLB.com published on November 3 shows the Platinum Glove winners for both leagues will be announced at the Rawlings Gold Glove gala in New York on November 6, the Hank Aaron Award follows on November 11, and MVP is revealed on November 12. The report names the Astros' Alvarez and the Cubs' Crow-Armstrong as MVP favorites.
- **Why it matters**: This will be the first time since 2020 that neither Judge nor Shohei Ohtani takes home MVP. After years of watching those two go head to head, seeing somebody else walk up to the podium takes some adjusting, but new faces breaking through is one of the best parts of baseball.

## Closing

If you remember just one thing today, make it Wembanyama's 52-point, 24-rebound, 8-block line. First player to do it in nearly 50 years, and he was sick while doing it. Over the next few days, the MLB Platinum Glove comes first tonight, followed by the Hank Aaron Award on November 11 and MVP on November 12. Over in the NBA, keep an eye on whether the 76ers can hold onto the league's best record. This is Muyan with the AI Sports Daily. See you next episode.
