# 📣 Meta's new policy requires advertisers to take full responsibility for AI errors? Turn off these two default settings tonight | AI Marketing Daily

## Opening
The very first thing you should do when you get to the office today is check your ad manager. Meta has updated its terms, announcing that advertisers must take full responsibility for any mistakes made by AI. I'm Mu-Yen. Today on the "AI Marketing Daily," in addition to breaking down this risk, I'll also share a new PMax video feature that Google Ads has quietly enabled by default, and how traditional SEO should respond to the 163% surge in AI referral traffic. More on that in a moment.

## Today's AI Marketing Focus

### 1. Meta's New Commercial Terms Take Effect: Brands Will Foot the Bill for AI Ad Blunders
- **What Happened**: Meta's updated Commercial Terms officially took effect on October 30. Section 5, "AI Features," explicitly states that advertisers must acknowledge that AI features may make mistakes, and declares that advertisers must bear all responsibility and risk for ad content generated or modified by AI. Additionally, starting October 28, Meta has enabled the existing "Product Browsing" feature by default.
- **Marketer's Take**: This is a major brand safety and legal risk. It means that if disputes arise in the future when Meta's AI automatically optimizes or modifies creatives, brands cannot shift the blame to the platform. Although Meta claims that in August testing, this feature boosted traffic conversion rates for advertisers by 3%, marketers must weigh the performance benefits against potential PR risks.
- **Action Items**: Log into Ads Manager immediately to carefully review and evaluate whether to turn off auto-enabled settings like automated optimization and "Product Browsing."

### 2. Google Ads Quietly Enables PMax "Automatically Sourced Videos" by Default: Marketers Beware of Unauthorized Creatives Going Live
- **What Happened**: Google Ads recently quietly enabled the "Automatically Sourced Videos" feature by default in Performance Max (PMax) campaigns. This feature uses AI and automated web scraping to pull videos directly from an advertiser's approved social media, landing pages, or YouTube channels, and uploads them to Google-owned YouTube channels to run ads.
- **Marketer's Take**: While this can quickly fill gaps in video assets, it can easily lead to outdated, unauthorized, or expired videos being resurfaced by AI, causing brand copyright issues or messaging confusion. This is enabled by default for newly created campaigns, and even existing campaigns might have it auto-enabled, so marketers must take proactive steps to prevent this.
- **Action Items**: Go into your Google Ads dashboard today, check the "Asset Group Expansion" settings in your PMax campaigns, and turn off the options you don't want AI to automatically pull videos from.

### 3. Microsoft and Google Launch New Controls Allowing Webmasters to Opt Out of AI Training While Retaining Search Rankings
- **What Happened**: Microsoft Bing and Google announced more granular controls for webmasters and publishers on October 30. Microsoft now allows webmasters to configure settings separately, opting out of AI "model training" while still allowing citations in "generative search answers." Even if a site completely opts out of AI training, it will still retain its position in Bing's traditional search results.
- **Marketer's Take**: This resolves the previous dilemma of "either let AI scrape everything or opt out of search engines entirely." Brands can now protect their intellectual property and content assets while still maintaining visibility and traffic on search engines.
- **Action Items**: Have your technical team or SEO specialists review your website's robots.txt and Search Console settings to adjust for the newly released granular controls from Microsoft Bing.

### 4. Brainlabs Report Shows AI Referral Traffic Surged 163.5% as Traditional Organic Search Faces Traffic Diversion Crisis
- **What Happened**: According to the "State of AI Visibility 2026" research report published by Brainlabs, which analyzed 54 client accounts and over 250 million visits, AI referral traffic surged by 163.5% during the study period. Meanwhile, traditional organic search traffic declined by 10.5%.
- **Marketer's Take**: This data confirms that users are shifting to AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and traffic from traditional search engines is being actively diverted. The SEO battlefield has changed. We can no longer just focus on traditional Google rankings, we must start planning for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
- **Action Items**: Evaluate how often your brand is currently recommended across major AI search tools, and adjust your content strategy to produce more structured content that answers complex user queries.

### 5. Billing Crisis for Ad Agencies? Zulu Alpha Kilo's Satirical Short Film Reveals How AI Efficiency Impacts Traditional Hourly Billing
- **What Happened**: Independent creative agency Zulu Alpha Kilo released a satirical short film titled "The Chat," which tells the story of an AI creative employee named CHAD who gets called in by his manager because he completed an entire ad campaign in just 42.5 seconds. Because of this extreme efficiency, the agency can no longer bill clients based on traditional "billable hours," causing the company's profits to plummet.
- **Marketer's Take**: This short film humorously hits on a current pain point for agencies. When AI reduces production time to seconds, the traditional hourly billing model becomes unsustainable. Both brands and agencies must accelerate their transition to "value-based pricing" or "performance-based pricing" contract models, otherwise the extreme efficiency brought by technology will turn into a financial burden.

## Wrap-up
The most important takeaway for today is that while automation and AI are convenient, platforms are shifting the responsibility for legal and brand safety onto us. Any feature enabled by default must be carefully reviewed. I recommend that you closely monitor changes in referral traffic from AI search engines to your website. Taking proactive steps is the only way to protect your traffic and budget heading into late 2026. See you tomorrow.
